The Manager of Patient Support Services is responsible for the development and implementation of patient-centric support services provided by the MSA Coalition. These include the delivery of direct patient support and guidance, enhancement of patient and care partner educational resources, and meaningful collaboration with the entire multiple system atrophy community to ensure the Coalition positively impacts those with lived experiences with the disease.

•    Degree in human services, social work, nursing or related field. LMSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or associated licensure preferred.

•    2+ years’ experience working directly with MSA, Parkinson’s disease, atypical Parkinson’s diseases, other neurodegenerative diseases, movement disorders, and/or aging patients and care partners. 

•    Experience in a nonprofit setting is preferred.
•    Experience in a multi-disciplinary team is a plus.
•    Experience managing/working with volunteers, committees, and/or community members preferred.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Manager of Patient Support Services will support the MSA Coalition by providing expertise, management, and execution in the following areas.

 

Local and Virtual Support Group Management
•    Develop and maintain support group facilitator training and educational resources.
•    Provide support, oversight, and visible leadership for support group leaders. 
•    Identify and develop current and future support group facilitators.
•    Create, monitor, and analyze support group leaders participation, satisfaction, and opportunities for improvement.
•    Attend and lead monthly MSA Coalition virtual support group meeting.
•    Lead the Support Group Facilitator special interest group to generate resource-sharing, networking, and community-building. 

 

Patient Support Services
•    Primary contact for the MSA Coalition’s patient support line. 
•    Respond to constituent referrals received via phone and email. Provide resources, referrals, support, and information to people with MSA and their care partners.
•    Maintain documentation of all calls and emails for support and tracking purposes.
•    Provides expertise and/or referrals on disability forms (SSI, SSDI, Medicare, Medicaid).
•    Identify innovative solutions and resources to support the MSA Coalition’s patient and care partner community.
•    Serve as an expert contributor to the MSA patient and caregiver community through communications platforms, education, patient-focused materials, and the online community platform. 
•    Collect, vet, maintain, and utilize local, national, and international resources and information regarding care, support, and patient and care partner education for those affected by MSA and other applicable disease-states. 
•    In conjunction with the Manager of Research and Medical Education, provides timely clinical trial and therapeutic development information for patients.

 

Patient and Care Partner Resource Development
•    Collaborate with the Education Steering Council to support the creation and ongoing review of patient and care partner-centric educational resources.
•    In conjunction with the Manager of Community Engagement and Support, conduct annual assessments to understand the success, opportunities, and needs of the MSA patient and care partner community.
•    Engage on the Centers of Excellence Advisory Council to support and enhance patient centered care practices and site evaluations.

 

Qualifications:
•   Degree in human services, social work, nursing or related field. LMSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or associated licensure preferred.

Experience and Skills:
•    Experience in a nonprofit setting is preferred.
•    Experience in a multi-disciplinary team is a plus.
•    Experience managing/working with volunteers, committees, and/or community members preferred.
•    Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and working independently.
•    Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects with competing deadlines.
•    Ability to be flexible, open to new ideas, with an eye towards improving, growing, and strengthening the MSA Coalition’s support services area.
•    Ability to work remotely.
•    Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal; customer service mindset.
•    Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
•    Proficient with Microsoft Office
•    Occasional travel may be required.
 

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to:
•    remain standing or sitting in a stationary position for many hours per day onsite
•    occasionally lift, move or carry boxes weighing up to 50 pounds
•    frequently move about inside a facility space.
