Job Description:

Role Purpose

The Commercial Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring MCI UK delivers profitable, consistent and scalable work across all its brands and solutions.

This role blends commercial leadership with client and operational oversight, acting as a senior partner to delivery teams to strengthen commercial accuracy, delivery performance and client satisfaction across the portfolio.

This is both a strategic and hands-on leadership role, ensuring that commercial decisions, operational capability and client delivery are fully aligned.

Key Responsibilities

1. Commercial Leadership & Framework Governance (30%)

  • Lead commercial modelling, pricing frameworks, margin standards and commercial approval processes.
  • Oversee commercial quality across projects — ensuring scopes, budgets and assumptions are clear, accurate and commercially sound.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations and CSD to ensure end-to-end commercial alignment from pitch to delivery.
  • Shape commercial approaches for complex, multi-brand or high-value accounts.

2. Operational Support & Delivery Assurance (30%)

  • Work with our Operations and Strategic Director to ensure resource models, PM capability, timelines and delivery structures support client needs, meet and exceed client expectations.
  • Step in as senior escalation support for delivery challenges, risk mitigation or client-sensitive situations.
  • Ensure delivery teams have the training and depth of understanding of the client and feel empowered to drive growth directly and with support.
  • Collaborate with our Event Directors to ensure delivery teams are set up for success and build confident and trusted relationships with the client.
  • Analyse delivery performance across major accounts and identify opportunities to streamline ways of working.

3. Portfolio Oversight & Account Health Steering (20%)

  • Monitor financial, operational and delivery performance across key accounts to identify risks early.
  • Provide senior-level commercial and operational guidance to Account Directors and Project Directors.
  • Support client teams in developing strong scopes, clearer roles & responsibilities, and more predictable delivery processes.
  • Join senior client meetings to provide commercial or operational assurance.

4. Strategic Projects & Process Improvement (10%)

  • Lead cross-company commercial–operational initiatives (e.g., rate card reviews, onboarding frameworks, margin improvement projects, delivery audits).
  • Support SLT in evaluating new service lines, operational enhancements or efficiency programmes.
  • Partner with CXO and CSD to align ways of working across brands and reduce friction points in delivery.

5. Capability Building & Team Support (10%)

  • Coach Project Directors, Producers and ADs on commercial delivery, scoping, forecasting and commercial decision-making.
  • Support operations with development of resource planning models, delivery frameworks and role clarity.
  • Create and facilitate training for teams on budgeting, commercial modelling and delivery best practice.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in commercial leadership and operational oversight within events, agency or integrated delivery environments.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end project delivery: staffing models, processes, workflows, risk points.
  • Proven ability to diagnose operational inefficiencies and introduce scalable solutions.
  • Comfortable leading senior client conversations but primarily focused on commercial–operational alignment rather than account ownership.
  • Strong financial acumen: pricing, forecasting, margin management and commercial governance.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and unite multiple brands under consistent ways of working.

Attributes & Behaviours

  • Highly collaborative — thrives in the intersection between commercial, client experience, and operations.
  • Strong problem-solver who brings calm and clarity to complex delivery or client situations.
  • Pragmatic, delivery-focused and solutions-led.
  • Able to balance commercial protection with client-centric decision-making.
  • Embodies MCI values of creativity, community, teamwork and quality.
